The Songwriters' Performance Workshop is about learning to become more expressive as a singer songwriter and performing artist. The workshop, created and facilitated by Jim Messina, first began in January of 1996 as an ongoing workshop in which students attended separate song writing and performing workshops weekly. The Songwriters' Performance Workshop is now being offered in two formats - the "Four Day Intensive" and the "Six Day Intensive."
The "Four Day Intensive" is directed toward those amateur and professional songwriters who may be living on modest budgets and/or who work a forty hour week. In this workshop, students attend the workshop daily. The workshop begins on Wednesday evening and ends on a Sunday. This format allows interested participants the opportunity to attend without having to dedicate more than two business days out of their busy work schedules. Students generally stay off site or at their personal residences.
The "Four Day Intensive" begins Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M., beginning with orientation into the "Course of Study" and "Emotional Body." On Thursday, the schedule focuses primarily on song writing. By Friday, students begin performing their compositions in preparation for the workshop's Saturday evening presentation of "Writers In the Round." A selected number of students may have an opportunity to perform their original compositions in front of a viewing audience.
The "Six Day Intensive" is for students seeking environments and locations that offer full service accommodations with possible ancillary activities or special services. The workshop begins on Monday Evening at 7:00 p.m. and ends Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday students attend three sessions a day: 10:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., 2:30 P.M. to 5:30 P.M., and 7:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M.
